Meet Dr Helen Collins
Welcome to Lifelong Strength Coaching, based in Newport on Tay (near Dundee!) where our mission is to build strength across the entire life course. Led by Dr Helen Collins, a leading researcher and expert in strength training, we are dedicated to providing evidence-based, tailored solutions that empower individuals at every stage of their journey.

My journey into strength coaching
My passion for strength coaching began with a focus on athlete performance, a field I thoroughly enjoyed. However, my journey evolved, leading me to ground breaking PhD research on providing strength training for inactive children with overweight and obesity. This work was incredibly rewarding, and seeing the profound impact on quality of life for older adults further deepened my resolve. My core goal is to foster positive relationships with physical activity throughout life, firmly believing that strength training plays an invaluable role in achieving this across the lifespan.

What sets me apart
In a crowded field, I stand out as one of the few well-qualified strength and conditioning coaches, particularly female, who specifically focus on health outcomes rather than performance.
With a PhD in strength training, I produced 4 peer-reviewed publications one of which, picked up global media interest and was cited in the 2020 World Health Organisation Guidelines on Physical Activity and Sedentary Behaviour.
My expertise isn't just academic; it's rooted in practical, evidence-based approaches designed for real-world impact, both in one-on-one coaching and through empowering other professionals.
I am UKSCA (United Kingdom Strength and Conditioning Association) Accredited as well as being a Fellow of CASES (Chartered Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences). In 2022, I won the UKSCA Coach of the Year Award for Health and Well-being, a prestigious award in our field.

Empowering every stage of life
My passion lies in helping individuals develop the strength they need to significantly improve their physical activity and overall health. I specialise in working with key groups who often benefit most from tailored strength interventions: inactive children, mums (including postpartum), menopausal women, and older adults. Witnessing the remarkable results – from increased mobility and confidence to enhanced well-being – is what truly drives me and forms the core of Lifelong Strength Coaching's mission.
